Showers and strong storms started to our north, and pushed southward into the region Wednesday. Many storms produced dangerous lightning, hail, strong winds, and heavy downpours. Ponding of water on roadways continued to be a problem with some of the stronger storms.
Things will begin to wind down overnight. Low temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s.
Some cloud cover may linger through Thursday morning, delaying initiation of convection, but with a high moisture content and an unstable airmass over Central Florida, rain chances will stay high later today. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s in most areas.
Drier air will try to move in for the upcoming weekend, lowering our rain chances slightly, but afternoon storms will still have the opportunity to develop.
The tropics are still very active, with two named storms. Hurricane Dolly has made landfall near South Padre Island, Texas. Storm surge up to 8 feet and locally 20 inches of rainfall will be possible. As Dolly moves inland, it will weaken quickly. The National Hurricane Center issued its last advisory on Cristobal Wednesday, it no longer has tropical characteristics.
