Marla Weech, Anchor

If you challenge people to name a legendary news icon in Central Florida, chances are you’ll hear this name: Marla Weech. Marla has been a fixture on Central Florida television since the 1980’s and now calls News 13 home.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida, Marla started her television career by working in such markets as Fort Myers, Jacksonville, and Little Rock, Arkansas before making Orlando the center of her professional life. Marla’s commitment to local news is reflected in the numerous awards she has received, including those from the Associated Press, United Press International, the Mid-Florida Society for Professional Journalists, and recognition as a distinguished alumni by the UCF Nicholson School of Communication’s Hall of Fame.

In her spare time, Marla is very active in the community, and utilizes her college music training (she was a Music major before moving to Communications) when she sings at her church. Marla especially enjoys the outdoors including growing and tending to a garden and flowers, running, scuba diving, and camping. It’s a good fit for Marla, since Central Florida has beautiful weather year-round, and for the Central Florida viewer, it’s an even better fit to have Marla Weech as part of the News 13 team.
