FEMA Closing Daytona Beach Disaster Recovery Center
Wednesday, June 24, 2009 8:06:24 AM
Reported By Jason Wheeler
DAYTONA BEACH -- It has been more than a month since heavy rains flooded portions of coastal Volusia County. Today FEMA will close its last disaster center.
FEMA officials opened two disaster recovery centers within a week of the flooding. Since then, FEMA, along with county officials, have kept a close eye on the number of people seeking help at the Dickerson Center site in Daytona Beach.
They say they are confident that all the people who needed one-on-one help have received it, so the center will close its doors at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
However, the Small Business Administration will still be on hand in Daytona Beach and the Holly Hill Recreation Center to take and process loan applications.
"The SBA is the gateway to further federal assistance,” said Tom Nocera, Small Business Administration. “That application can unlock the doors to further grant money from FEMA if you're declined by the SBA for the loan."
The Disaster Loan Outreach Centers will have different hours.
They'll be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They are scheduled to close Thursday, July 2.
