ORLANDO -- LYNX stands to get an extra $4 million from the Orange County Commissioners, but it will come with some stipulations, like higher fares for riders.
Because of sky rocketing gas prices, LYNX has had to consider taking some drastic steps such as cutting bus routes in order to make up for their financial shortfalls.
On Wednesday, Orange County commissioners voted to pull money from their reserve fund to help fund the agency. But LYNX would have to generate $1 million on its own from higher fares. Then Orange County would match LYNX dollar for dollar.
"As you fund outside agencies there’s going to have to be some accommodation made for their efficiencies as well as county government efficiencies. It's a sign of the times," said Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty.
All additional funding approved by the Orange County commissioners will not be official until after a public hearing.
