Andrew Fernald

BREVARD COUNTY --  A man who admitted to bilking dozens of retirees out of thousands of dollars in a hurricane shutter scheme now wants to withdraw his guilty plea.

Andrew Fernald filed a plea of not guilty and also filed a demand for a trial through his attorney.

Fernald, 50, missed his Dec. 20 sentencing after he fled to New York. He was captured in February after a two-month manhunt. He is now being held at the Brevard County jail without bond.

Fernald was also wanted in Indian River and St. Lucie counties, as well as the Florida Keys.

Fernald faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and $15,000 in fines. He has paid at least $17,000 in restitution to some of his victims.
