NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Florida Fish and Wildlife is investigating a bizarre boating death.

Investigators said three people in a boat went up to the Coast Guard station in Ponce Inlet for help for an unconscious person that was with them.

They said they were fishing when the victim fell in the water. That man later died.

Investigators said the boat was the same one they had chased earlier in the day because they thought it was stolen.

They later let the group go.

Fish and Wildlife is investigating and believe alcohol may have played a role in the death. However, they don’t suspect foul play.
