ORLANDO -- A family friend is arrested after an elderly woman is beaten and raped in her own home.

Robert Acosta, 28, was arrested Thursday night and now faces multiple charges, including sexual battery with rape and occupied burglary.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. Thursday at a home near Bumby Avenue and Michigan Street.

Deputies said Acosta broke into the victim’s home and then attacked her in her bedroom.

The woman lives alone.

Deputies were able to arrest Acosta after finding evidence inside the victim's home.

They said what makes this case more disturbing is that Acosta was someone the victim and her daughter trusted, and someone the victim considered a good friend.

"He worked for the daughter,” said Sgt. Rich Mankewich from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. “He built a relationship with the family over the past year. Stayed at the daughter's house several occasions at that was his relationship with them."

The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with severe bruises to her face, but doctors said she is stable.
