Elvis Presley performed many times in Central Florida, including Orlando and Daytona Beach back in August 1956. This summer, a local Elvis tribute artist is hoping to recreate the mayhem.
"He's just about as good as we've seen," said Bill Moore from Clermont.
"It's that screaming and idol worshipping like that. It's a gone thing," said Jim Wellen, a tourist from New Jersey.
Nearly 31 years after Elvis' death in August 1977, some fans at Old Town in Kissimmee are feeling something they've not felt in decades, thanks to a 27-year-old performer.
"You can just tell just by looking on their faces that it's taking them back to when they were teenagers, when they were watching 'The Ed Sullivan Show,'" said Dwight Icenhower, an Elvis tribute artist.
For nearly a decade, Icenhower has studied Presley's gyrations, his charisma, and his voice.
"I believe he was one of the greatest singers that ever lived," said Icenhower.
However, Icenhower admits, he feels the pressure of looking into eyes in the audience.
"A little bit, because they were there," said Icenhower. "They saw the real deal. They saw 'The King' live. It's a lot to live up to, you know, to try to bring back those memories of what they remember."
Icenhower wasn't even born until four years after Presley died, and now, Icenhower is devoting his life to The King of Rock n' Roll.
That’s something Dorris Moore of Clermont is happy that someone is doing. She wants younger kids to hear the Rock n' Roll as she knew it!
"Some of the newer stuff I'm not too wild about,” Moore said.
Going wild for Elvis hasn't stopped yet, In fact, Terry Mee from the United Kingdom admits Icenhower's look has turned his wife's head.
“He's a good looking chap," Mee said.
You can catch Dwight Icenhower's concerts every Wednesday this summer at Old Town in Kissimmee. You can check out the entertainment schedule on Old Town's Web site.
