Central Florida News 13 Internship Program
The application deadline for the upcoming fall semester is Friday, Aug. 1.
Internship opportunities could include working in the following departments:

Technical Operations: Interns will learn how to work with the technical aspects of a news broadcast operation. Editing, audio and directing skills will be learned. Expect to learn knowledge of the taped aspect of our operation, as well as live capabilities.
Web: Intern will help the Webmaster copy-edit scripts, update content, headlines and graphics on www.cfnews13.com. Interns will learn Dreamweaver and ImageReady as well as learn the day-to-day management of a Web site. It's a great place to hone your writing skills.
Promotions:
Interns with an interest in producing on air promotion will be given hands-on experience in the marketing department. Candidates should have a basic understanding and capability to produce a thirty second promo from concept to completion. Candidates should know how to write, shoot and edit using a nonlinear editor. Candidates will learn the value of branding a local news channel.
Sports: Interns will help produce The Central Florida Sports Report, a sports program that airs nightly on Central Florida News 13, as well as First and 13, News 13's high school football show.
News: Interns can work with reporters and/or producers to understand the on-the-job experiences. Reporting interns will shadow reporters and head into the field to assist in shooting, writing and editing packages.
Graphics: Interns will help produce on-air graphics including animations and maps for Central Florida News 13 as well as its different programming streams: www.cfnews13.com, Central Florida On Demand, News 13 On Demand, News 13 en Español On Demand.
en Español: Interns will work with reporters on our News 13 en Español products. Reporting interns will shadow reporters in the field and assist in shooting, writing and editing packages. Qualified interns must be able to write and speak Spanish.
Internship Responsibilities:
All accepted interns must provide Central Florida News 13 with proof of college or technical school sponsorship for the internship. A letter from your professor or advisor indicating the following information is required:
- Student's name.
- Number of internship hours you must work to satisfy the internship.
- Letter must be on university, college or technical school letterhead and must be signed and dated by the professor or advisor
Once you are accepted as an intern at Central Florida News 13, you will receive an orientation packet.
Your Central Florida News 13 Advisor will discuss a work schedule in accordance with the number of hours needed to satisfy your internship credits. During the internship, you should always check in with your assigned advisor upon entering the building.
Unpaid/credit-only internships are offered each semester to accredited juniors and seniors majoring in a communications field. Students are required to work 2 days a week (8 hours a day). One day may be spent working on the assignment desk assisting the desk manager with researching stories, helping dispatch reporters on stories, typing in information into the computer, and other general assignment work. The other day is spent working in the area of the student's choice, i.e.: post-production work, producing, writing, reporting, sports, etc.
These are the minimum requirements for the internship. Any extra days are welcome depending on the student's schedule and availability.
Dress is business casual (for men: slacks or khakis with a polo shirt; for women: suit, slacks or pants) Tank tops, halter tops, midriffs, shorts, baseball caps and t-shirts with profane or obscene language are not permitted. You are representing News 13 in the newsroom and in the field so you are expected to dress appropriately.
Employment is not guaranteed upon accepting an internship with Central Florida News 13.
